AQUA BOOM® History

The Aqua Boom is one man’s vision to meet the needs of all athletes. Plagued with injuries, founder Tony Shutts realized the need to modify his fitness activities. The Aqua Boom did  more than that — it helped him get in the best shape of his life.

As a surgical assistant to Dr. Brian Cohen, one of the leading orthopedic sports medicine and shoulder replacement specialists in the world, Tony witnessed firsthand the outcome of excessive demand placed on the body. Tony himself struggled with land-based cardiovascular training.

Tony’s wife Juli suggested swimming for its low-impact health benefits. Swimming laps daily helped Tony rebuild some of his fitness and endurance.

He began developing added routines of resistance exercises that further increased muscle endurance. Doing these exercises in the water reduced and sometimes even eliminated the day after “Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness” (DOMS) common in most exercise programs.

After stumbling across an old starting block at the YMCA, Tony discovered that a pool deck anchor would greatly expand the range and potential of exercises he could do in the water. He began sketching a more flexible alternative to the starting block —  something more comfortable, adaptable, and easy to use. A PVC model was built and tested. A series of design and production engineers followed. The first special built stainless prototype was born in January of 2014.

ISO-Aquatics History

ISO-Aquatics, LLC was founded in 2012 as the vehicle to commercialize founder Tony Shutts’ first product concept, Aqua Boom. Our name is a tribute to our chosen discipline of isotonic exercises in the water.

The ISO-Aquatics name speaks not only to the Aqua Boom, but also to the exercise regime that demanded the Aqua Boom and a subsequent line of products currently in production.
